Mental Health America of Colorado is the recognized leader, collaborating to promote mental health, expand access to services and transform systems of healthcare.  

Vision
We envision a healthy Colorado free of stigma and discrimination where every person has full access to high quality services for all mental health and substance abuse conditions.


Our History
Mental Health America of Colorado is a non-profit association providing 55 years of leadership to address the full range of mental health and wellness issues in Colorado. We are an affiliate of Mental Health America in Washington, D.C.

The Story of The Bell

 

Cast from shackles which bound them, this bell shall ring out hope for the mentally ill and victory over mental illness. — Inscription on Mental Health Bell

During the early days of mental health treatment, asylums often restrained people who had mental illnesses with iron chains and shackles around their ankles and wrists. With better understanding and treatments, this cruel practice eventually stopped.
